Western Forestry Contractors' Association - www.wfca.ca

Since 1984, the WFCA has represented the forestry contracting and consulting industry, acting as a lobbying organization to both federal and provincial governments on matters relating to forest policy, industry regulation, health, and safety. WFCA members include companies involved in treeplanting, stand tending, wildfire fighting, site preparation, surveying, GIS, policy development, and ecosystem restoration. This industry sees participation from more than 10,000 seasonal workers each year.

Total Physio - www.totalphysio.ca

Total Physio is based out of Houston, BC. They have had an enormous positive impact thanks to a comprehensive program that helps mitigate or eliminate tendonitis and a number of other common planting-related injuries. Folklore Contracting works very closely with Total Physio. Their full program includes pre-season training for planters, in-house training sessions for management and first-aid personnel, and site visits & presentations.

Fit To Plant, BC Forest Safety - Fit To Plant Training

This program, originally developed by Dalia Roberts, is now being shared through BC Forest Safety instead of Selkirk College. Tree planting is very physically demanding and can lead to injuries in the unprepared. The Fit to Plant program will keep you from getting hurt and help you plant hard all season long. Planters who followed this program planted 12.5% more trees and suffered 40% fewer injuries and illnesses than untrained planters.

BC Forest Safety Council - www.bcforestsafe.org

Forest Safe, formerly known as the British Columbia Forest Safety Council, was founded in 2004. It is the health and safety association (HSA) for forest harvesting, sawmills and pellet manufacturing in British Columbia. The BCFSC works with forest sector employers, workers, unions, contractors and provincial government agencies to support industry in implementing changes necessary to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries in the forest sector.

This site contains a wealth of information about preparing yourself for a season of tree planting, and includes great stories, photos, and videos about the culture of tree planting throughout Canada. In addition, this site offers a significant amount of training resources which are used as an industry standard by trainers at many of western Canada's major reforestation companies. The administrator of this site, Jonathan "Scooter" Clark, is a key long-term employee at Folklore Contracting.
